At YMCA Neath, our Community Food Bank is here to support individuals and families facing financial hardship. We provide essential food parcels to those in need, helping to ease the pressure during difficult times. Access to the food bank is through a simple referral or self-registration process and all support is offered with dignity, compassion and confidentiality.
If you’re not sure, just ask – we’re here to help.
Monday 10:00 – 1:00pm (fortnightly)
Please note: Surplus food (such as bread and pastries) is free for all members of our community – this helps us fight food waste and is separate from our food bank service.
YMCA Neath Food Bank Guidelines
We ask all visitors to follow the guidelines below:
Referral Required
To receive a food parcel, you must complete either:
- A Self-Referral Form, or
- A Referral from an organisation (such as a GP, housing officer, support worker, or charity)
Referral forms help us understand your situation and ensure support is provided fairly.
One Parcel Per Household
Each household is eligible for one food parcel per week. This helps us support as many people as possible across our community.
What You’ll Receive
Each food parcel contains 6 essential food and hygiene items, depending on availability. Items are selected to provide basic support and may vary week to week.
After Three Visits
Once you have visited three times, you’ll be offered a friendly, confidential chat with our Wellbeing Officer. This is not mandatory, but it’s a chance to:
- Explore other support available
- Discuss long-term help
- Ask questions in a safe space
Proof of Need
We will ask you to provide basic evidence of need (such as a benefits letter or referral confirmation). All information is kept strictly confidential.
Donations:
The food bank is powered by donations from individuals, local businesses and organisations. If you wish to contribute, please contact us for a list of needed items or details on drop-off times.
Conduct and Safety:
We ask that all visitors respect the space, staff, volunteers and fellow visitors. Everyone deserves to feel safe, welcome and dignified while using the food bank. Please be patient during busy periods and follow any instructions given by staff to ensure a smooth and efficient process.
Health and Safety Guidelines:
To maintain hygiene and food safety, we ask that visitors handle their bags and the food items carefully. Staff and volunteers regularly inspect items for expiration dates and any food past its use-by date will not be distributed.
